Monster Charmer 0.14.0

Hail and a belated Happy Easter!

Our environment and game structure are now set up to support the coming "Gameplay 1.0". The Monster Charmer's Guild is now fully integrated into the greater streaming open-world map, along with all of the explorable areas - currently five hard-coded islands. Our entire environment stack has been reworked to support this massive expansion, including the integration of interior/exterior spaces, multiple scenes, etc. The coming builds will involve me stuffing our environment full of art and new encounters. And many more spaces to explore.

This is another "fully unlocked" build with the existing legacy battle and charm systems running on top of the new world. This should be the last legacy build before we switch the next iteration of the core game loop on. Excite! 🦇

  • All environments are now integrated into the dynamic, streaming open world.
  • Added five new test islands to the open world.
  • Added the Monster Charmer's Guild Tower, which is now integrated into the open world.
  • Locomotion improvements - added Strafing.
  • Locomotion improvements - strafing and backpedalling (A, D, and S) now function whilst in "Run" mode.
  • Locomotion improvements - added Sprint (hold LShift).
  • Locomotion improvements - improved LMouse + RMouse "Click to Move" support to enhance single-handed play.
  • Locomotion improvements - added LMouse + drag "Click to Move" feature.
  • Camera/Gameplay - improved orbit camera collision detection.
  • Camera/Gameplay - improved camera snapping when switching game states.
  • Locomotion/Gameplay - added a land tether effect, preventing you from running off into and being swept away by the ocean. We'll teleport you back to your last safe, landed location if you try to escape.
  • Countless bug fixes and game feel, polish improvements.

Known Issues

  • Character progression & RPG systems are still under heavy development - cards, abilities, and especially balance are not final!
  • Not all hairstyles have physics rigs, and most hair physics rigs are first-pass.
  • The Batkini and Plate Armour do not have full shapes and genitals support yet, this will be fixed in a future release.
